50: The Continuation of the Schools

The ancient mystery schools, or offshoots of them, continued to exist for millennia, and the secrets they held were continually passed on to new adepts as they advanced through the various degrees of initiation, being given access to the most secret knowledge only after attaining the highest levels of advancement through these degrees. Most initiates would never reach the higher levels, which were reserved for only the very few most promising students, and which took a lifetime for most to reach. Most students therefore remained in the lower degrees, but were educated or trained in skills that were nonetheless quite valuable and highly technical for the time. These skilled adepts were useful to the kings and queens of different lands, and were often contracted out to them. Through this, the schools were able to acquire a certain amount of power and control over these kings and queens and their monarchies, learning their secrets through their adept-spies.

Stone masonry was one such skill that was very useful and was taught to many of the students of the Egyptian schools, and these well-trained stonemasons were contracted out to build virtually every one of the ancient cathedrals that still stand today throughout Western Europe. These stonemasons belonged to a secret society that has since evolved into what is known today as the Freemason’s Society. The original Freemasons claimed to have been specially chosen, and to have received the secret knowledge of their craft directly from the ancient gods as far back as the building of the Tower of Babel and Solomon’s Temple. This secret society was originally established in order to keep its members united and mutually supportive while they lived and worked throughout the foreign lands, building castles and cathedrals for the Church and various royalty. They had their own lodges or meeting halls in which they continued the traditions of the school they originated from, and they would meet regularly at these places, keeping their focus on the tenets of the mystery school to which they belonged, and these meeting halls and lodges were undoubtedly used for receiving and disseminating orders from their superiors back home, and through which they were able to transmit information back to them.

Sir Francis Bacon is believed to have been the founder of modern Freemasonry in England, and he was also a Rosicrucian. His disciples later formed the Royal Society of London for the Promotion of Natural Knowledge, which acted as a cover for Masonic activities. This organization, which will be discussed in more detail in the pages ahead, founded modern science and has since controlled much of what is accepted as scientific fact. Bacon’s disciples were also the first settlers in America, arriving thirty-six years before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock on the Mayflower. The Freemasons played a huge part in the founding of the United States of America, and have been involved in its politics ever since, operating from the shadows. The depth of their involvement can be evidenced by the fact that one of their symbols, the truncated pyramid with the all-seeing eye above it, can be found on the back of every American dollar bill. It is said that all but one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Freemasons. You might say that the USA is the property of the Freemason’s Society. The concept of a New World Order is also Masonic in origin, and this term can also be found written in Latin on American currency (Novus Ordo Seclorum). Masons believe in creating opportunity out of chaos by exploiting the need for order, and so another favorite term they use is ‘Order Out of Chaos’ (Ordo ab Chao). The Freemason’s Society pretends to be nothing more than a fraternal order that promotes social skills and fellowship among its members, and this is what the majority of its members believe it is, but this organization is involved in much more than just this, and many of its lower-ranking members are led along in ignorance, aiding them in implementing their secret agenda without knowing what they are involved in.

As the higher adepts of these mystery schools learned of the methods that were used to gain power and control of populations through the manipulation of those who ruled over them, other splinters of the original mystery schools came into existence in one form or another, but always carrying on the basic principles and traditions that held the original schools together and made them so powerful. One of the main traditions was that of secrecy. Another was the continual pursuit of greater knowledge, and to this end, spying was put to great use.

These schools or secret societies still exist today in one form or another, but how much of the secret knowledge of the original schools has been retained is unknown, and what is being done with it is equally uncertain. The present-day Freemason’s Society is one of the most well known as being a direct descendent of these ancient schools, originating in Egypt and continually increasing and spreading their ranks throughout the world as civilization slowly developed. The Freemason’s Society has developed over the centuries and eventually came to include members who were not stonemasons, so that today their numbers include a great many who are in various positions of power and influence throughout different levels of the social order, and who are therefore of useful advantage to the prosperity and advancement of those within the higher ranks of this secret society.

Aside from the Freemasons, other, obviously more esoteric schools sprang up over time, such as that of the Knights Templar, which formed in 1118 under the guise of its members being the protectors of pilgrims traveling to and from the Holy Land, but who only ever used this cover as a means to acquire wealth and power for themselves. The early secret activities of the Templars included excavating the Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, where it’s said they found ‘scrolls of knowledge’, and that whatever it was that was written on these scrolls gave them certain power over the Church, presumably because this knowledge could expose certain lies that the Church was promulgating as the truth. By 1139, twenty-one years after their founding, the Templars had gained so much power that they were only answerable to the Church, and were the strongest military force in the world. The Templars amassed great wealth, and came to own thousands of castles across Europe, many of which they had built themselves. Because they were becoming too powerful, the Church finally decided to eliminate them. Many of the Knights Templar were rounded up, tortured until they confessed to a list of horrendous crimes, and then burned alive at the stake. Many others escaped with much of their wealth and their secrets, and went on to form other secret societies. One of these was the Knights of Christ. Christopher Columbus was alleged to have married the daughter of a Knight of Christ, from whose father he had access to certain charts. This was very likely where the Piri Reis map originated from. Although the Templar’s beliefs are not known for certain, it’s said that they worshipped the devil, who they called Baphomet, and that they engaged in certain outrageously immoral acts as part of their secret rituals.

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, long after the Church had lost much of its dominant hold over the masses, a number of mystical groups were openly forming in western Europe, including the Theosophical Society, founded by Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Another was the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a Masonic offshoot of which Aleister Crowley (1875 – 1947) was a member. Crowley was also heavily involved in two offshoots of this group, one being a group called the Ordo Templi Orientis (Order of the Oriental Templars, or OTO), and the other being the Argenteum Astrum, which only the highest adepts of the Golden Dawn (strictly Freemasons) were admitted into. Crowley took over the Argenteum Astrum in 1922. The OTO was centered around sex magick. Crowley and the groups that he was involved with eventually moved to California, where they attracted certain personages that later became important figures in military and intelligence circles in the US (Crowley himself was working for British intelligence). One of these personages was L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Another was a person named Jack Whiteside Parsons, a pioneer in the development of rocket fuels who worked on a number of secret military projects and was eventually to be employed by the newly founded Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL). It should be noted that JPL is now in control of US space probes, since this will be significant in later parts of this book. The result of all this was an intimate relationship between the military and intelligence organs of the US government and the most powerful occult groups in existence.

It should be noted that early in Aleister Crowley’s affairs with the occult, he experienced certain strange phenomena while visiting the Great Pyramid in Egypt with his new wife, Rose. Rose herself was involved in some of these phenomena, having become possessed by an incarnate entity that identified itself as ‘Aiwass’ after having been inexplicably drawn to museum exhibit number 666 at the Cairo Museum. Through Rose, this entity dictated the entirety of Crowley’s Book of the Law over the course of three days. Whether the source was as claimed, or whether Crowley merely promoted this work as such, the fact remains that it played a huge part in Crowley’s life and in the lives of those around him. A few years after producing this work, Crowley formed the Astrum Argeteum, where this work became the underlying doctrine.

Along with other works by Crowley, The Book of the Law became the basis for a modernized form of occult magic, which Crowley differentiated by spelling the word as ‘magick’. Crowley’s written works have drawn a lot of interest from every level of society, not the least of which have been the movers and shakers of the world. Crowley had the ability to popularize demonology, satanism, and ritual magic in a way that was strangely alluring to many people and which seemed to offer real occult power to those who might undertake these practices. Within the OTO, Crowley made changes that would increase membership and allow those members to more quickly advance through the ranks. He made the Book of the Law the main tenet of this group.

These esoteric groups each claimed that they were in contact with incarnate intelligences, variously called the Hidden Masters or the Great White Brotherhood by the Theosophical Society, and the Secret Chiefs by the Golden Dawn. Whether they actually believed this, or just used it as an excuse for the origination of their belief system, is uncertain, although most followers of these groups probably believed that these incarnate Masters actually existed. Putting their ultimate leadership in the persona of a group of incarnate beings allowed these esoteric schools to dictate a belief system that, for all appearances, came from the gods themselves. They were in contact with these incarnate beings through mediums, who would channel them while in a trance state. It may be that this was all a farce, or it may have some truth to it, since there were certainly some mysterious activities surrounding these groups that defy an otherwise logical explanation. Robert Anton Wilson, an American writer on the subject of esoterica, has claimed that one of the secrets held by the highest degrees of Freemasonry was that it was in contact with incarnate beings similar to those others. The head of the Rosicrucians, Reuben Swinburne Clymer, also claimed that his group was directed by incarnate Masters called the Council of Nine. Virtually all of these groups believed that an ancient prehistoric civilization once existed on Earth that built the Great Pyramid and other megalithic structures, and that extraterrestrials have been directly involved in the affairs of the human race throughout the millennia. Of course, the members of these groups don’t learn this unless they reach the higher ranks.

The major secret groups that exist today have all shown an interest in the UFO enigma as well, and believe that the operators of these mysterious craft are benevolent beings that are here to guide humanity to some new level of existence, or to save us from our own destruction. This is nothing more than a modern-day version of the Second Coming, following the same formula as the older major religions to coerce the masses into believing in these ‘gods’ through the performance of miracles and displays of power. Although the thought that these entities are only concerned for our safety might seem worthy of trusting them in a time of need or uncertainty, we must be extremely careful and on our guard for a potential trap. We’ll consider this further in later parts of this book.
